Blu-ray Disc is now the winner in the format war.
Sony are taking on the high level SLR digital camera companies.
Sony new range wafer-thin TV's are ahead of the competition.

Are the shares about to do a Nintendo ?

I doubt it - we are heading into recession and everything sony make is discretionary spending

The Hidef war is not over yet - the real competition will be Google and Amazon once the bandwidth is fast enough

I doubt there will be such public appetite for HD DVD. I think the public are very dubious about these kind of things now and for 99% of the population their current dvd is good enough. You cannot tell the difference between a 1080p and a 720p LCD unless you have a screen alot bigger than 40 inches.

People will buy the latest ipod but HD dvds - not unless they are really cheap.

Ooh-er I didn’t expect those replies blink.gif

If you bought shares in Nintendo in 2006 and sold at the end of 2007
You would have made 400%. ohmy.gif

The computer Games industry in America (at the moment at least !)
Seems to be unaffected by the recession, unbelievably .

It could be an interesting year for Sony their problem child ps3
Looks to be coming of age !

There is an impressive lineup being released this year that really
Should have been released with the consoles launch .
Killzone 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Littlebigplanet, Unreal Tournament III.
Metal Gear Solid 4, and a few other surprises.

I think it will be a worthwhile risk to take anyway.

I'm not sure I'd be investing in that sector right now however a few things do seem to be going Sony's way of late. A few months back Toshiba bailed on SED (bad few months for Toshiba!) and I believe Canon are looking at leaving SED alone. I doubt laser will come of anything; certainly the front runner appears to be OLED which Sony have just said they're investing 22billion yen into.

With regards to Nintendo going up, who'd of thought that they'd come up with a console that'd beat Xbox and Playstation hands down in sales? Not me! I thought they were an also ran in console wars.
