On the radio this morning someone had the idea of banishing all translators ( Leave it to family members ) and you must work at least 5 years in the uk before being entiltled to benefits. ( Pay in the pot first ). If we must allow half the world onto this packed island then insist they pay health insurance first.

If £20 is all that is required to support the services provided by government to service economic migrants then surely that is all that is required in tax from the existing population.

I’m of the opinion that immigration is a good thing. I do, however, take issue with the obvious flaws in the system that allow what are essentially world-class public service institutions to be taken advantage of.

The NHS, although inefficient and in need of an overhaul, is a great and good thing, and the benefit system here in the UK gives security and quality of life to those who need it most. Unfortunately the system appears to be easy to abuse (although you only ever hear about the minority of abusers, not the majority who rely on it and are in genuine need).

Immigration needs to be planned and managed carefully to ensure that it benefits the host nation. We in the UK have attracted hard-working and motivated individuals from other countries who have been only too happy to do the jobs that indigenous people turned their noses up at. Now, you could argue that we have been suppressing wages by trading on our strong currency (some of which has been shipped abroad to help those left behind), and there is a point to be discussed there, but generally we have relied on immigrant workers to keep UK PLC looking as (ahem) rosy as it has.

Interestingly, now that the good times are over, I expect to see NET migration pick up speed as people return home or seek pastures new. I wonder what effect this will have?

Anyway – abuse of the system should not be tolerated, but the vast majority are here to work and pay their way IMHO.

The moment I heard this was being proposed by our devious government my instant reaction was 'when's the next general election?' Poland and several other Eastern European countries joined the EU in May 2004 and by June 2006 a grand total of 427,000 migrants had applied for work permits and brought 36,000 dependents with them. Under the current system of four years temporary resident status the first of these migrants would be able to start the process of claiming citizenship from May this year. By changing this to five years plus an extra probationary year as they are now proposing the whole issue of potentially large numbers of Eastern European migrants being entitled to British citizenship will not arise as an issue until after the next general election.

This isn't an attempt to 'control the unrestricted immigration of recent years'; it's a shabby Labour trick to disguise yet another mess they've created without actually addressing the issue. What a pathetic shower they are.

Actually public lynching is exactly what they do to people in many African countries in response to rape. Theres a certain poetic justice that cant be denied but theyve been doing it for centuries and I think we can all conclude that it hasnt given them a peaceful society.
