Well, according to UTV and Jamie Delargy average house price is down 12% from 250k to 220k
Good news, obviously, but what will happen to sentiment when the average house price heads under the 200k barrier
Will it spread panic amongst sellers?
Persuade buyers back in?
Cause prices to fall further and quicker?
Cause Helen Carson to split in two?
Mr Watson to eat his hat?
The poll is a bit of fun, but I sense a lot of denial out there and quite a bit of creeping fear!
I think we're maybe being a little unfair by singling out particular estate agents for praise or critisism like Pooler and watson and particular news correspondants like Jamie Delargy and Helen Carson.
These two EA's have three office between them and are only in east Belfast, what about the rest of NI? The only thing they both do that many other EA's don't is put is they put their comments onto their homepages, which is brave of them in a way because nobody else seems to be doing it. Yeah sure, we might not agree with their version of events, either the Pooler "hurry up and buy something" commentary, or the Watson "don't panic" version, but people who are selling often speak a different language to those who are not buying. As selling is their business, the EA sales talk is to be expected but why not quote eg Templeton Robinson, we know about their "awards" and staff outings from the homepage of their site, what about BTW Cairns, UPS and the rest. There are dozens of EA's all across the country, but what are they saying about the market?
Jamie Delargy has become the champion of the house price goth scene and Helen Carson is critisised for her imput. Again, these folk are speaking out which means they are the ones being talked about. I think we'd all like to hear more from other reporters eg BBC's Yvette Shapiro or correspondants from eg the Belfast Newsletter or the Irish News etc. We don't have to agree or disagre with them but it would be nice to hear their opinions rather than just the Delargy v. Carson arguements.
It's always the usual suspects so get cutting and pasting, lets hear some new points of view!
