Hi, I'm thinking of pluggung my £40k deposit for a house into the ICICI Hisave fixed term deposit account : HiSave and was wondering if there is anything better out there with less risk.

Alternatively, if anyone would recommend another account which is more stable than an ICICI account, I'd be very thankful.

Thanks in advance,

D.

Well, I've been given a wide steer from the ICICI account and advised to opt for IceSave but when looking through another website I came across this.

How do people on here feel about the stability of these Iclandic banks:

Fears over IceSave

Icesave have just lowered their interest rate on their online account to 6.05% and (at the time of this post) are no longer competitive.

I have dumped a wad into Hisave fixed term deposit account and feel fairly comfortable about it.

Their fixed rate savings a/c for 6 months is 6.76% AER. I was looking at fixed term acounts.

Who are now best for 'UK' savings accounts?

NR are backed by the treasury and offer 6.29% - probably safest

or

West Brom BS are offering a good rate - http://www.westbrom.co.uk/westbrom/savings.category?id=2

Where does the 6.29% come from?

Unless I misunderstand what type of account you're referring to or something like that, then NR is offering 6.5%.

Me too.

Infact I have two with them @ 6.85% fixed for a year.

Do remember you have to wait overnight after the first working day until you see your account appear online, I was starting to get a little stressed after I dumped a load of cash in there and nothing happened by the end of Monday, Tuesday everything appeared fine.
