What places do people using for taking physical delivery of gold? I'm planning to chop in all my investment (mostly yen) and just buy some gold coin, then sell it on ebay when I've had enough of it in a year or so.

I'm still considering using bullionvault et al, but it's just so tempting to take delivery as all my yen will changed into pounds cash...

The two main places are:

ATS Bullion

Baird & Co.

There are also various local jewellers across the capital that will sell you bullion. However, you might not get the best price (i.e. could cost you). I saw a krug in Cash Converters the other day, so anything is possible.

Try www.coininvestdirect.com/main.php. The 1 oz.bars are cheaper than Bairds and shipping costs are less as well.

I have some gold in GoldMoney online, but also wanted to take physical delivery.

I can recommend ATS Bullion, as I bought there for the first time on Thursday.
Explained that it was my first time buying physical gold and silver, and they took the time to explain it all.
They brought out the coins and bars, so I could see exactly what I was buying.
Went away with a 1 Kilo bar of silver and 10 Tola bar of gold (about 3.75 Troy Ounces).

With hindsight, I should have bought the silver online at GoldMoney as I believe you don't pay VAT - still - live and learn !

Kruggs and sovs can be bought from your local independent High Street jewellers. If they don't have them in stock, they can get them for you. You can agree a price there and then, and wait for them to arrive. As these are generally cash sales, and there is no VAT, they can be flexible about prices. Mine offered me Kruggs cheaper than most online prices. No delivery charge.

Saves a trip to London.

ATS are very helpful. Ask for Sandra, very helpful IMO. Is it worth buying from ebay to save a few quid when you might get ripped off? Not if you ask me. £5 saved per sovereign is = to 23 good deals and one rip off. Also, is the premium worth paying to hold physical, especially with silvers vat? I think its best to have a bit of bullion vault or GM and a bit of physical. But then I'm just a fool. smile.gif
