Is The AA bank the Bank of Scotland which is HBOS - in other words, the Halifax?

I think the AA offer loans which are in fact HBOS, in some cases. The applications I often received were addressed Trinity Road, Halifax.

Found the info on the AA's website which says it is Bank of Scotland so that is HBOS isn't it? Oh well, trying to get my money out of HBOS and into unrelated banks.

Oh do tell. Why?

Simply because of the 35K FSA rule limit. I don't want to have all my eggs, savings, in one basket just in case another bank goes the likes of Northern Rock. I can't see the Government affording another 100 billion to bail out another bank and the FSA guarantee is ONLY for 35K per registered bank - i.e. the Bank of Scotland and the Halifax are one bank so if you had 35K with each of them and HBOS went bust then you would only get back 35K and not 70K.

As the bigger banks now own many smaller banks it is difficult to work out who owns what and that could be a disaster if and when UK banks start goign bust. They did in Japan in the 1990s and loads of people lost their life savings.

Moneysavingexpert kinda points to it being owned by someone else. What is confusing is banks that are brand names who basically flog their brand name out to a big bank to use and then brand names who are actually bought by big banks. That is a subtle but important difference and working out who is who is nigh impossible these days.

In 2004 the AA was sold for GBP 1.75 billion to two European private equity firms, CVC and Permira.

A new headquarters building for the AA, known as Fanum House was opened in 1973 by the Queen. It is located in Basing View, Basingstoke, north Hampshire. Whilst the AA was under Centrica control in 2001 the HQ was moved to an office in Farnborough (also in Hampshire), but returned to Basingstoke as of October 2005 following the sale to CVC Permira.
