I recognise that the good people running this site have to find ways of paying for its upkeep, which must be expensive in return for the excellent resources HPC provides to us. But goodness gracious, I keep seeing ads from the very people (Halifax, FirstPlus etc) who represent the exact same lenders HPC-ers have collectively lampooned, criticised and indeed demolished as being the prime cause of the very reason this website exists.

I do realise we live in the real world and you have to attract advertising where you can. It just strikes me as a little bizarre!

I couldn't agree more - what is the point of these people advertising on this site. All a bit strange really.

But you don't have to look at it. If you have firefox then it's easy to block any ad company by installing something like Adblock - I've never seen an advert on this site. I always block flash adverts that distract from the page I'm trying to view, and until the ad companies use URLs like annoying_flash_ads.fubra.com then I'll just have to block everything coming out of fubra.com. I suppose hpc is entitled to get money from my page views, so I suggest they use a cleverer, more responsible advertising partner.

I do not blame the guys as financial ads pay loads and thus offer a much higher cpm/cpc than other ads.

Many of the ads are automatic and contextual and thus kinked to the keywords that are dicussed on the website.

Its a small price to pay and I find it wonderfully ironic that they are contributing to a website that has certainly informed me and educated me in a number areas that has subsequently saved me a lot of money and becoming a debt slave long term.

I didn't realise that ads which do appear are the result of perhaps a third party agency and maybe that explains the bizarre nature of them. I must emphasise that my thread is not a prime facie criticism of the HPC staff, just an observation.
