As I drove into work today chuckling at all the EA For Sale boards I started wondering what would make a good theme tune for HPC . So far I have come up with 'The only way is down' ( M People ?), 'Down , Down Deeper and Down' ( Status Quo ) and 'Money's too Tight to Mention' - Simply in the Red.
Any other suggestions or should I just get on with my work ! ?

CRASH
here you go way to fast
don't slow down you're gonna crash
you should watch - watch your stay here
don't look out you're gonna break your neck
so shut , shut your mouth
cause I'm not listening anyhow
i've had enough, enough of you
enough to last a life time through
so what do you want of me?
got no words of sympathy and if i go around with you
you know that i'll get messed up too with you
na na na na na
na na na na na
here you go way to fast
don't slow down you're gonna crash
you don't know what's been going down
you've been running all over town
so shut , shut your mouth
cause i'm not listening anyhow
i've had enough, enough of you
enough to last a life time through
so what do you want of me?
got no cure for misery and if I go around with you
you know that i'll get messed up too with you
with you
na na na na na
slow down you're gonna crash
na na na na na
slow down you're gonna crash
na na na na na
slow down you're gonna crash

In the car this morning I was flicking between stations and the latest financial news was oddly suited to The Jam's "Beat Surrender".
Beat surrender -
Come on boy, come on girl
Succumb to the beat surrender
All the things that I care about (are packed into one punch)
All the things that Im not sure about (are sorted out at once)
And as it was in the beginning, so shall it be in the end
That B------t is B------t, it just goes by different names [edited for the profanity filter]
All the things that I shout about (but never act upon)
All the courage and the dreams that I have
(but seem to wait so long)
My doubt is cast aside, watch phonies run to hide
The dignified dont even enter in the game

Well, it's not very catchy, but it's very pertinent;
"Feed the birds" from the film Mary Poppins. The older of us may remember that it's sang just before the children cause a run on the bank.

It could have been written for the job specifically
What Goes Up... The Alan Parson Project
What goes up, must come down
What must rise, must fall
And what goes on in your life
Is writing on the wall
If all things must fall
Why build a miracle at all
If all things must pass
Even a miracle won't last
What goes up, must come down
What must stand alone?
And what goes on, in your mind
Is turning into stone
If all things must fall
Why build a miracle at all
If all things must pass
Even a pyramid won't last
How can you be so sure?
How do you know what the earth will endure?
How can you be so sure?
That the wonders you've made in you life
Will be seen
By the millions who'll follow to visit the site
Of your dream?
What goes up, must come down
What goes round, must come round
What's been lost, must be found

If you go down to the woods today, You're sure of a big surprise
If you go down to the woods today, You'd better go in disguise.
For ev'ry bear that ever there was, Will gather there for certain, because
Today's the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic.
All together now 'If you go down in the woods today........

One for all us oldies.
The Bee Gees - Tradegy. (You could possibly change it to 'Property')
Here I lie
in a lost and lonely part of town
Held in time
In a world of tears I slowly drown
Goin'home
I just can't make it all alone
I really should be holding you
Holding you
Loving you loving you
Tragedy
When the feeling's gone and you can't go on
It's tragedy
When the morning cries and you don't know why
It's hard to bear
With no-one to love you you're
goin' nowhere
Tragedy
When you lose control and you got no soul
It's tragedy
When the morning cries and you don't know why
It's hard to bear
With no-one beside you you're
goin' nowhere
When the feeling's gone and you can't go on
Night and day
there's a burning down inside of me
Burning love
With a yearning that won't let me be
Down I go
and I just can't take it all alone
I really should be holding you
Holding you
Loving you loving
Tragedy
When the feeling's gone and you can't go on
It's tragedy
When the morning cries and you don't know why
It's hard to bear
With no-one to love you you're
goin' nowhere
Tragedy
When you lose control and you got no soul
It's tragedy
When the morning cries and you don't know why
It's hard to bear
With no-one beside you you're
goin' nowhere
Tragedy etc.

The Great Depression:
QUOTE
No sense or reason in your fussing and fighting
And your violent obsession.
Who's ever really left feeling fine
After the great depression?
Your sense of purpose is the competition
Keeping up with the Jones's
You buy a house,
You buy a car
You buy a marriage and a bed of roses

Come on are you ready? Come on lets hear you shout
It's Housepricecrash (Housepricecrash!)
Housepricecrash (Housepricecrash!)
Join in with us in laughing, that's what it's all about
Oh such a lovely word is housepricecrash!

Brother, Can You Spare a Dime," (1931)
They used to tell me I was building a dream, and so I followed the mob,
When there was earth to plow, or guns to bear, I was always there right on the job.
They used to tell me I was building a dream, with peace and glory ahead,
Why should I be standing in line, just waiting for bread?
Once I built a railroad, I made it run, made it race against time.
Once I built a railroad; now it's done. Brother, can you spare a dime?
Once I built a tower, up to the sun, brick, and rivet, and lime;
Once I built a tower, now it's done. Brother, can you spare a dime?
Once in khaki suits, gee we looked swell,
Full of that Yankee Doodly Dum,
Half a million boots went slogging through Hell,
And I was the kid with the drum!
Say, don't you remember, they called me Al; it was Al all the time.
Why don't you remember, I'm your pal? Buddy, can you spare a dime?
Once in khaki suits, gee we looked swell,
Full of that Yankee Doodly Dum,
Half a million boots went slogging through Hell,
And I was the kid with the drum!
Say, don't you remember, they called me Al; it was Al all the time.
Say, don't you remember, I'm your pal? Buddy, can you spare a dime?

Paul Simon Lyrics
50 Ways to Leave Your Lover lender Lyrics
(Paul Simon)
The problem is all inside your head
She said to me
The answer is easy if you
Take it logically
I'd like to help you in your struggle
To be free
There must be fifty ways
To leave your lover lender
She said it's really not my habit
To intrude
Furthermore, I hope my meaning
Won't be lost or misconstrued
But I'll repeat myself
At the risk of being crude
There must be fifty ways
To leave your lover ledger
Fifty ways to leave your lover lender
CHORUS:
You Just slip out the back, Jack
Make a new plan, Stan
You don't need to be coy, Roy
Just get yourself free
Hop on the bus, Gus
You don't need to discuss much
Just drop off the key, Lee
And get yourself free
She said it grieves me so
To see you in such pain
I wish there was something I could do
To make you smile again
I said I appreciate that
And would you please explain
About the fifty ways
She said why don't we both
Just sleep on it tonight
And I believe in the morning
You'll begin to see the light
And then she kissed me
And I realized she probably was right
There must be fifty ways
To leave yourlover lender
Fifty ways to leave your lover lender
CHORUS

Or even life at a top peoples health farm:
QUOTE
Dads gone down the dog track, engels laying cables
Brothers with his student friends plotting in the stables
Theyre preparing for power and how to win
Im covered in solaire and preparing to swim
Old iron! old iron! - I heard the bobby shout
As he brought his friendly truncheon down with
With a God almighty clout.
Mothers playing bingo, shes hoping for a big win
She buys the daily papers to see how 10% live
My cousins greatest wish, is to one day buy a farm
And turn it into a health club with top people charm
Any evening, any day - Im singing to myself
Ill pack up all my clothes and dough and piss off somewhere else.
My ol man was a dust person until he got the shove
Now the iron heel he talked about is backed by the iron glove
Brothers bought new glasses, shaped like leon trotskys
They look very nice on the mantlepiece, next to the royal family
Im laying back with the radio on, in time to hear the archers
An everyday tale of country folk mixed up in prostitution.
Like all good stories with a happy end, which Ill now give to you
Our cousins wish was granted and so his dream came true
His gas shares doubled, while his telecoms soared
Til he had enough money, to chair his own board
And thank you margaret thatcher, may you never come to harm
He now serves cocktails and lettuce at a top peoples health club farm.
Weller is the man.
